To securely access the CUP network and some tools available, you may be required to use a virtual private network (VPN). To do this, you will download and install a VPN client, a small piece of software that allows you to connect to a designated network securely using the infrastructure of another network to access the designated one.
- Cisco AnyConnect VPN client (Windows PC)
- Cisco AnyConnect VPN client (Mac)
- For macOS Catalina users, follow this process to remove the old VPN client and download the new VPN client
VPN: Download and install (Windows)
The Concordia VPN is used only for a secure connection to Concordia University Portland internal resources from off-site locations by authorized users.
THIS VPN DOES NOT AFFECT INTERNET TRAFFIC.
It does not provide security or anonymity for internet activities.
Use the VPN for accessing the following:
- Reaching files stored on the network drives when off-campus (I:/ Drive, etc)
- SPSS users who are using a Concordia temporary license
- Accessing Banner off-site
- Printing off-site
- Using the Cisco VoIP Communicator
The installation guide for downloading the CU VPN is maintained by Cisco, and is available once you log in through their portal:
- Navigate to https://vpn.cu-portland.edu .
- Login with your Network username and password.
- Ensure Employee is selected in the Group drop-down menu.
- After logging in, download the VPN installer by clicking the Download button in the center of the page.
- Or click Instructions in the bottom right for more information.
- After the download is finished, click to launch the installer and follow the on-screen prompts to finish installing on your computer.

If you are using a Mac with macOS Catalina installed, you may have noticed that your Cisco AnyConnect VPN for CUP is no longer working. To resolve this issue, follow the guidance below.
Uninstall the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client
Before you can install the update VPN client, you must remove the dysfunctional Cisco AnyConnect VPN client from your computer. You must use the "uninstaller" application to remove the VPN from your computer and ready for updating.
- Open Finder.
- Within the Finder window, navigate to the Applications folder on your computer
- Open the folder for Cisco.
- Double-click the app icon to Uninstall AnyConnect
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the removal of this app from your computer.
- Restart your computer and proceed to the next section on Installing the VPN Client.
Download and install the VPN client
If you are a macOS Catalina user, please remove the previous VPN client from your computer before proceeding with new installation.
- Navigate to https://vpn.cu-portland.edu .
- Login with your Network username and password.
- Ensure Employee is selected in the drop-down menu.
- Click the Download button in the center.
- Or click Instructions in the bottom right for more information.
- This will download the AnyConnect VPN client installer package to your computer.
- After the installer is downloaded, double-click the download to launch the installer.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation of the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client on your Mac.
