Rubrics can be added to almost any learning activity in Blackboard. A variety of options are available to customize assessments and feedback. You can also export rubrics to import into another course.

Create a new rubric
Within your course in Blackboard:
- On the left sidebar course menu, expand the Course Tools section and select Rubrics.
- On the Rubrics page, click Create Rubric.
- Type a Name for the rubric.
- Enter a desired Description (if desired).
- Edit the rubric grid as desired.
- Click Submit to finish creating your rubric.
Build the rubric
The section labeled Rubric Detail allows you to build your rubric.
The default rubric in Blackboard will have three criteria (rows) and three levels of achievement (columns).
- To add additional criteria or levels of achievement, click on the Add Row or Add Column button
- Rubric Type: Use the drop-down menu to adjust the type of calculation the rubric uses.
- Options include: percentage, percentage range, points, or point range
- To rename or delete an existing criterion, click the button to the left of the criterion name and choose the appropriate option. To change the weight of a criterion, enter the desired weighting for the criterion in the space provided.
- To rename or delete an existing level of achievement, click the button to the left of the level name and choose the appropriate option.
- In each rubric cell, enter the point value for the criterion and level of achievement in question, and provide a description of the requirements for achieving the criterion in question in the space provided. Repeat this process for each rubric cell.
- If you are using a percentage rubric, click the Balance Weights button to automatically even out each criterion.
When finished, click the Submit button at the bottom of the screen.
Export rubrics from your course
- On the left sidebar course menu, expand the Course Tools section and select Rubrics.
- On the Rubrics page with the list of rubrics in your course, place a check in the box next to the rubric(s) you wish to export.
- Click the Export button.
- On the Rubric Export Settings page, select where to save the exported rubric to your computer.
- Select Export to Local Computer.
- Click Submit.
