To support future improvement to our learning management system (LMS), Concordia has implemented Blackboard's Ultra Base Navigation.
Ultra Base Navigation provides updates to much of the navigation leading into courses. Experience within your courses has not changed.
Specific improvements include an updated view to your courses, improved control of your profile, an activity stream that will help you to stay on top of your course work, and improved control of alerts and notifications.
For more information about each of the changes introduced within Ultra Base Navigation, see the following resources.
Manage Your Course View
The Courses link is located in the left sidebar of your Blackboard page. Once you click the Courses link in the left side bar, you will be able to view all of your courses and sort them accordingly.
- The Courses page provides a view of all of your courses:
- Past, Present, Future
- You have the ability to customize your Courses page to:
- View in list or grid format
- Filter your page view
- Customize how many courses are viewed on the page
- Star your favorites (This will move the course to the top of the page)
Note: Courses cannot be re-ordered in your list. They are organized in alphabetical order and by term, with the newest courses displayed first.

View Your Activity Stream
Blackboard's Activity Stream helps you to stay on top of current and upcoming events within your courses. It displays reminders of items due, and notice of important actions such as announcements, messages, and the posting of grades. Accessing those assignments, messages, and grades is just a click away.
After logging into Blackboard, you will see a link to your Activity Stream located in the left sidebar.
The Activity Stream organizes information in four categories: Important, Upcoming, Today, and Recent. These items correspond with specific dates and automatically update. Within these categories, you can see what items need your attention and you access these activities with one click.
Customizing the Activity Stream is possible, allowing you to show or hide specific activities. Comprehensive information on customizing your Activity Stream can be found in the Blackboard knowledge base article.
The video below provides a brief introduction to the Activity Stream.

Users have the ability to customize which notifications are viewed for all courses. These notifications can be managed within the activity stream.
Navigate to your Activity Stream and click the gear icon in the upper-right corner.
This will open up the Notification Settings. Here, you have the option to adjust your Stream Notifications, Email Notifications, and Push Notifications.
